The American Association of Bank Directors (“AABD”) Names Gregory P. Wilson to Its Board of Advisors
The American Association of Bank Directors (AABD) today announced the appointment of Gregory P. Wilson to its Board of Advisers. Mr. Wilson has had a long and distinguished professional career involved with financial services policy and regulation.
“Greg brings to AABD a wealth of practical experience and expertise as a major player in federal bank regulatory policy, consulting, and being a bank director,” David Baris, President of AABD, said.
Rich Whiting, Executive Director of AABD added, “I am pleased that Greg will bring his public and private sector background and sound judgment to bear on the issues facing bank directors and the banking industry generally. He will provide AABD members with invaluable support for the challenges they face.”
Wilson is the founder and principal of Wilson Consulting, a firm whose primary focus is on policy and regulatory reform efforts since the financial crisis, including implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act and international financial regulatory developments. In January 2015, Greg became an independent director of the Atlantic Trust Company, N.A., in Atlanta, GA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Among other activities, he also currently serves as a Senior Adviser to the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Financial Regulatory Reform Initiative.
Previously, Mr. Wilson was an Expert Partner and Senior Advisor at McKinsey & Company in the firm’s Financial Services Practice based in Washington D.C. During almost twenty-five years at McKinsey, he helped both private and public sector clients around the world on issues of financial crisis management, regulatory reform, financial sector restructuring, and financial center competitiveness. Prior to working with McKinsey, Greg was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Policy in the U.S. Treasury Department. Before that he was Staff Director of the Committee on Banking, Finance, and Urban Affairs of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Greg attended the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and graduated magna cum laude from Ohio Wesleyan University. He has authored several books, including Managing to the New Regulatory Reality – Doing Business under the Dodd-Frank Act (John Wiley & Sons, 2011), and co-authored Dangerous Markets, Managing in Financial Crises (John Wiley & Sons, 2001).
Mr. Wilson will also serve on the Board of Advisors of the Institute for Bank Director Education, an arm of AABD, which sponsors the AABD Bank Director Certification Program. This Program provides a structured curriculum for directors of banks of all sizes.
Founded in 1989, the non-profit American Association of Bank Directors is the only trade group in the United States solely devoted to bank directors and their information, education, and advocacy needs. The Institute for Bank Director Education was established in 1993 as the educational arm of AABD. Its purpose is to act as a clearinghouse for education programs designed for bank and savings institution directors that support the nationally recognized AABD Director Certification Program. AABD has published, among other publications, the “The Bank Director Regulatory Burden Report”, the first public compilation of over 800 laws, regulations and federal banking agency guidance that impose various requirements on bank directors and their boards and board committees, and “FDIC Director Suits: Lessons Learned”.
